Rapid Transit Construction – East London Link – Highbury Ave Project

Overview:

The East London Link is a multi-year project that will revitalize more than 6 km of road from Downtown to Fanshawe College. The project will add transportation and transit improvements above ground, while repairing and replacing aging sewers, watermains and other underground infrastructure.

Effective February 20, 2024, work will commence along Highbury Ave between Dundas and Oxford. The work is scheduled to be completed in stages with a scheduled project completion date of late November 2024.

With the staged approach to the construction, there will be changes to service impacts as the project progresses through the stages.

Impacts:

Route 10

While Route 10 will not be detoured during the construction, there will be stop closures on Highbury between Dundas and north of Oxford which will change during the varying stages of the project. Detailed information is below with regard to the anticipated timelines for each stage and the impacts on stops.

Details on where to catch the bus when transferring during each phase of construction is also set out below

Route 95

Effective Monday June 10 until further notice, Route 95 will be detoured in both directions to help improve schedule reliability.  

Northbound– north on Highbury, right on Dundas, left on First, left on Oxford to the Fanshawe College Terminal

Southbound– From the Fanshawe College Terminal, south on First, right on Dundas, left on Highbury to regular southbound routing

Routes 4, 17, 20, 91 & 104

For the entirety of the project stop 1307- Oxbury Centre eastbound will be closed.

During Phases 1B, 2 and 3 stop 1309- Oxford at Highbury eastbound will also be closed.

For passengers transferring at Oxford and Highbury the closest open stop will be stop 1389 Oxford at Empire eastbound

Routes 2 & 94

During a portion of the Phase 2 construction, stop 578 Dundas at Highbury westbound will be closed as a result of westbound lane closures at Dundas and Highbury. During this time Routes 2 & 94 will be detoured via Highbury and Florence.
